Black Student Enrollment in Dual Credit

Abstract

The number of students enrolled in Dual Credit (DC) programs in Texas continues to grow, yet there are fewer Black students enrolled. The purpose of this study was to identify factors that impeded the enrollment of Black students in DC programs. This sequential mixed method study consisted of a survey, and interviews with Black students to provide in-depth information on their experiences. In the survey data, there were no significant differences in the experiences of Black students who participated in DC and those who did not. The qualitative data identified factors impeding the enrollment of Black students in DC, including a lack of information and a lack of support from teachers and counselors.
