Autoethnography, Exposing What's on the Inside: Research Creation Through Stitching

What is understood as knowledge and rewarded as scholarship is often narrowly defined, serving to maintain power differentials in the academy and limiting the ways research is shared with the larger community. I share three fiber designs that resulted from a desire to stitch I experienced while conducting a parent-child autoethnography exploring Critical Race Parenting in the white home. I explore the utility of this work to my research process using Research Creation (Loveless, 2019) as a lens. While I offer more questions than answers regarding my stitching, I conclude that the integration of art and research should be encouraged in the academy in support of research creation that is nonhegemonic and offers avenues for micro and macro transformation.
