The purpose of this study was to generate a national demographic profile of music educators in American public schools and document systematic differences among music teachers and teachers of other subjects using nationally representative data from the 2017 National Teacher & Principal Study (NTPS). Key results showed that music teachers were significantly less racially diverse than teachers of other subjects, were significantly more male than teachers of other subjects, and had higher overall job satisfaction.
