“Practicing what you preach” is a cornerstone of effectively teaching educational psychology. Yet, access to teacher training for graduate student instructors (GSIs) is varied and inconsistent (Boysen, 2011) This study aimed to better understand teaching development opportunities for educational psychology GSIs in order to provide improved support. Participants (N = 20) completed a questionnaire regarding their teaching background and available teaching-related learning opportunities. Thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006) revealed three emergent themes: relationship-building, knowledge, and passion. Findings indicated that GSIs are confident in their ability to form positive relationships with students and need the most support in relation to pedagogical knowledge. Lastly, GSIs expressed a desire to learn from each other and/or expert teachers. Implications and future directions are discussed.
