This paper interrogates the history newcomer schools in New York City. Through a genealogical tracing of the emergence of newcomer schools, I explore how this schooling model emerged as a practiced and desirable model for educating immigrant youth. Looking at the trajectory of this school, I trace the negotiations, forms of resistance, and survival mechanisms the school has used to survive in New York City's educational landscape.
