Post-Qualitative Methodology and Its Relationship to Psychoanalytic Theory

Abstract

This paper brings together post-qualitative educational methodologies with psychoanalytic theory in order investigate the methodological potential of a national program, OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning). OPAL encourages outdoor play in elementary public schools in Canada. The project focused on building school and community relationships in an urban school context in Toronto. Within this paper, I will specifically focus on the visual images (photography and video) recorded during the research study. I will use the images to discuss the play policy and use relational psychoanalytic theory to think about the implications of the post-qualitative turn to the ‘more-than human’.
