How Does a Medical School Serve Latinxs? Campus Artifacts of an Emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution

Abstract

This study examined the structures of serving the Latinx community at an emerging Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) medical school in Nevada. This qualitative study employs a case study approach to examine the phenomenon of Latinx servingness through campus artifacts. The findings demonstrate the compositional diversity, physical structures, and observations of the campus artifacts are not reflective of Latinx servingness. This study contributes to our understanding of Latinx servingness at medical schools to create more equitable and supportive campus environments for Latinx students and faculty attending their institution and increase their enrollment, graduating, and representation among the physician workforce.
