Validating the Flourishing Scale for Immigrant College Students

Abstract

The Flourishing Scale (FS) measures “social-psychological prosperity” (Diener et al., 2010) and studies show that it has a lot of validity evidence (Diener et al., 2009, 2010; Howell & Buro 2015). However, published studies lack a look into Rasch validity measurements with this scale and lack an answer into the converging sex differences found on this scale (Howell & Buro 2015). Furthermore, immigrant college students have not been a focus of this scale’s validity studies. Thus, this study will employ Rasch measurement techniques to answer the following questions: 1) How psychometrically sound is the FS for immigrant college students? 2) Are there gender differences on FS items? Recommendations for scale development will be discussed following Rasch measurement findings.
