Living "the Uncertainty": Poetic Ethnography of Libyan Women's Experiences

Sat, April 23, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Drawing on Hanauer’s (2012-2021) methodological approach of using poetic ethnography as research data, this study has utilized poetry to accurately represent the experience of Libyan women living in a conflict zone. To compose these poems, I interviewed 12 Libyan women in Libya living the transitional years followed the February 17th revolution. This study is very significant because it offers a new way of using poetic inquiry to voice the experience of the silenced and it adds to the existing body of research of using arts-based research in education and humanities.
