Preparedness of Graduate Students for Responsible Conduct in Research: A Mixed-Method Research

Abstract

The growth in the number of violations in research and publication ethics and the negative consequences of these violations on both the individuals and institutions have been pushing the quest for eliminating these violations in higher education. The aim of this study is to explore the factors contributing to the preparedness of graduate students for Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) and publication processes. A convergent design was used, and both qualitative and quantitative datasets were collected, analyzed, and integrated to understand the role of individual and institutional factors in the RCR preparedness of graduate students. Both qualitative and quantitative data converge on the role of the mentor and function of an institutional policy for developing graduate students’ RCR preparedness.
