Dream-Mapping a Queer Ethic of Care in Higher Education Teaching

Abstract

While conducting this research, we, two PhD candidates and instructors (the first author a trans, genderqueer, racialized person and the second author being a white cis femme settler) asked ourselves: How is a queer ethic of care being enacted in higher education? How do we enact it currently? We explored those questions through creating drawings, paintings and poems, sharing them with each other, and creating a synethised list of traits for a queer ethic of care. According to our dream-maps and discussions, we situate embodied vulnerability, slowness, circularity, relationality and everyday disruption as pedagogical possibilities for a queer ethic of care in higher education. Our paper elaborates on these traits and discusses how this process of co-dreaming was generative.
