Floyd County Schools, KY
Floyd County School District is the school district created to serve the public education needs of Floyd County, Kentucky. The district is made up of seven Pre/K-8th elementary schools, three high schools, Floyd County Early College Academy, Floyd County School of Innovation and Renaissance Learning Center, with enrollment at 5,500 students. Located in Eastern Kentucky, Floyd County Schools is a high-need district within the state; the district has lost 35% of their enrollment since 1990. 78% of families qualify for free or reduced lunch and 7% are considered economically disadvantaged. Floyd County Schools has identified the following as its focus for developing inclusive computing pathways: “We believe in CS because it will provide ALL students opportunities to show leadership, identify problems and find innovative solutions, which will grow and expand our region’s workforce and prepare students to be competitive in today’s global economy.”
Denise Isaac, Floyd County Schools, KY
Denise is the Chief Information Officer/Federal Programs Coordinator/Director of Floyd County School of Innovation and leads three teacher leader teams for Floyd County Public School System in rural Eastern Kentucky. Denise has been CIO since January 2019 after ten years teaching middle school Social Studies and Language Arts, and ten years of school level administration. As CIO she strives to continue the implementation of the 1:1 initiative with students and to support teachers. Denise’s passion is for students in rural Eastern Kentucky to have the same access to STEM/CSpathways as students in urban areas of the country. With the creation of School of Innovation all three high schools in the district have equal access to six pathways: Engineering, Computer Science, Heavy Equipment Sciences, Agriculture, Criminal Justice, and Healthcare.
