Sun, April 24, 4:15 to 5:45pm PDT (4:15 to 5:45pm PDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, SIG-Second Language Research Virtual Paper Session Room

Abstract

Explorations of macro-level issues in teacher education at the interna¬tional level is a trending topic. One reason for this interest is the strong correlation between teacher quality related measures and student learning outcomes (Darling-Hammond & Lieberman, 2012). This study reports on a cross-cultural comparison of themes in a recently published edited volume on international teacher education. The volume includes data from 11 countries around four critical areas: policy, research, curriculum, and practice in the preparation of teachers of English (EAL) as an additional language around the world. The purpose of this presentation is to synthesize emerging themes from these 11 comparisons and report on the ideas and practices that have implications to improve EAL teacher education programs.
