Accommodations for Students With Emotional and Behavioral Disorders: What Teachers Believe

Abstract

The aim of education is to provide students with the tools that they will need to be successful and content in the 21st century.But how do we address the needs of students identified as having emotional or behavioral disorders (EBD)? The authors believe that the first step in meeting the educational needs of this population is to understand how educators perceive them and the instructional accommodations most often assigned. We asked teachers to rank their agreement with statements about selecting accommodations, how useful accommodations are, and the feasibility of using the accommodations. Findings show that while general education teachers recognize the need for accommodations, they may need more support to make the best choices for their students with EBD.
