Sacramento Area Youth Speaks (SAYS) trains, in partnership with a local university, poet-mentor educators (PMEs) from neighborhoods to work inside schools to support students as the authors of their own lives and agencies of change. SAYS strives to implement an innovative critical literacy program, centering grassroots literacy, liberatory pedagogy, and mattering of youth (Youth Speaks, 2021). SAYS’ work has been referenced by Watson (2013), Watson (2017), and Watson (2018).
