Reclaiming the "Excessive Body" as a Vehicle for Change

Thu, April 21, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This paper aims to generate dialogue, discussion, and conversation on the importance of the body in scholarship and learning. As an educator, scholar, and dance artist, I bring the body into everything I do by investigating the relationship between language, writing, dance practices, and inclusive pedagogy. In response to AERA 2022 Call for Submissions, I offer a counter-narrative that reclaims the body as a way of knowing, learning, and being present in scholarship. Bringing each and every unique body into the room and using dance as a way of inquiry, is a way of giving embodied voices to diverse populations and, as such, cultivating “equitable education systems”.
