Recollection and Rewriting of Memories as a Method for Educational Change: Voices From Vietnam

Mon, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Writing is collective healing to build a community together. We, five individual Vietnamese bodies, ask a question, “How can individual memories be a collective healing to rewrite a better future of education?”. We borrow Nhat Hanh’s (1999) teaching philosophy to touch on our suffering to heal and Barad’s (2014) re-turning as “a multiplicity of processes” to reconnect with the pastpresent (p. 168). Inspired by the memory-work method (Haug, 1987), we use the recollection of individual memories to share critical incidents of past experiences to build a collective learning community for healing purposes. Through this process, we have demonstrated our deep commitment to creating a resilient and sustainable system in retelling stories for the betterment of educational change in Vietnam.
