Institutions of higher education serve a critical role in bridging academia and workforce, yet college students find it challenging to transfer their learning across and beyond instructional formats. The goals of this qualitative study were to explore (a) how university faculty conceptualize and enhance transfer across disciplines; and (c) what pedagogical practices they use to enhance transfer in higher education. This study used semi-structured interviews with 11 faculty from four disciplinary areas. This study is significant since its findings revealed a number of pedagogical practices that instructional designers and faculty can use to optimize learning and transfer in higher education.
