Exploring the Key Elements for Developing, Implementing, and Sustaining Men of Color Programs at Hispanic-Serving Institution Community Colleges

Abstract

This study examines the essential elements that community colleges require to develop, implement, and sustain Men of Color programs (MoCs) serving the educational needs of Latino men. Our study is grounded in data that captures the voices of practitioners who are directly serving MoC, specifically program administrators of Men of Color initiatives at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) in Texas. As few studies have examined MoC programs at community college HSIs through the perspective of administrators (Briscoe et al., 2020), we asked how they have garnered institutional support to implement and sustain MoCs at their institutions, highlighting evidence-based practices. Findings from this study seek to help guide researchers, practitioners, on the importance of allocating of resources to implement and sustain these efforts.
