Given the significant increase of Latinx students and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) in Texas, it is vital to see the representation of Latinx executive leaders in Texas institutions. This study examines what challenges and barriers Latinx leaders encounter to get to executive leadership roles at Hispanic Serving Intuitions (HSIs) in Texas. Guided by Latinx Critical Race Theory (LatCrit), we used a narrative inquiry design to explore the ways in which race and racism shaped the experiences towards executive roles for six Latinx executive leaders. The preliminary findings in this study included: Racial Bias in Hiring, Racially Coded Institutional Politics, and Animosity Within the Latinx Community.
