Inter-textual strategies have been studied in multiple text comprehension, but rarely when illustrated text is used. We present results from analyses of think-alouds and representation switches (e.g., from one text to another page's diagram) using complementary text sets on the COVID19 virus with undergraduate biology students. Inter-textual switches help integrative comprehension when they are followed by high-level strategy use or inferences.
