At the end of the 20th century, Fr. Joseph O’Keefe, S.J., and a team of researchers collaborated to study the specific trajectories of urban Catholic schools and to identify what it means to, in their words, “sustain the legacy” of these schools (O’Keefe et al., 2004). The current study examines the way that the legacy has been sustained, enhanced, or adapted over the course of the past twenty years and whether or not the “courageous, comprehensive, and collaborative vision” called for by O’Keefe and Goldschmidt (2014) has been fulfilled. This mixed-methods study includes data on curriculum and instruction, services offered, and religious practices of urban Catholic schools across the United States.
