Abstract

This paper provides a rationale for the proposed workshop, which invites participants to engage in complexity thinking in service of two fundamental topics: educational research as a complex scientific discipline, and equity-seeking school leadership and teacher education. Both are posed as wicked problems, meaning that they are multi-faceted, dynamic, and plural by origin. Workshop facilitators will assist participants as they draw on complexity informed principles, theories, and methodologies, and consider these topics and their area of educational research in order to generate research “sparks” or questions of their own. The workshop will be facilitated by a diverse group of distinguished scholars. At its conclusion, facilitators and participants will be invited to continue to develop their insights and nascent collaborations through an online community forum of the group’s choosing.
