Black and Latinx students represent are leaving STEM fields at alarming high rates no doubt due to a myriad of racist practices that lead to their departure. Yet, little is known about how students’ relationship with science changes prior to their departure. Findings from this study center on the how science identity “moves” for Black and Latinx students in STEM through strengthened identity movement, stable identity movement, and weakened identity movement.
