Community Museums: Dialogical Spaces for Knowledge Creation, Mobilization, and Income for Marginalized Citizens in Brazil

Abstract

This paper intends to present a study conducted with a group of 20 individuals who belong to the National Recycling Social Movement (MNCR) in São Paulo-Brazil, and how they managed to organize works of art that were curated in an exhibition aimed at the communities in the region. This research has as its theoretical reference arts-based research, museum education and inclusion pedagogy, which aims to give voice to those marginalized and excluded groups from society. As a final result, it was possible to retrace the history of some participants through their art, which shows itself as an important instrument of social, political and economic criticism in one of the most populous - and unequal - cities in Latin America and the world.
