Abstract

This study explores unique affordances of the generative process of designing the research-based illustrated story, as a medium to facilitate dialogues among teacher candidates on equity and diversity. We examine whether and how the designed illustrated story served as a visual artefact to evoke conversation on equity and diversity. Our findings demonstrate that the designed illustrated story facilitated explicit discussion on equity and race among teacher candidates. Utilizing the positionality of artist/researcher, we inquire into the complex process of (re)designing the visual artifact for open dialogues on the issue of equity and diversity.
