The purpose of this presentation is to mine three texts about transformative black women educators for methodological insights on how to construct biographies of black women intellectuals that center race, gender, and, in some instances, class while also offering portraits of how these women, living in different geographical areas, shaped educational practices, expanded canons, and challenged patriarchy. In essence, the presentation highlights the primary methodological moves the biographers studied here make.
