Factors Influencing Openness to Diversity and Challenge Among Fraternity Men: A Longitudinal HLM Approach

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine factors predicting openness to diversity and challenge (ODC) among a longitudinal sample of fraternity men (N = 3,420) from 134 U.S. institutions collected in 2020 and 2021. Drawing on ecological approaches to studying college student development, this study employs hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) to test the relationships between student characteristics, political/social involvement, and measures of fraternal brotherhood on our outcome over-and-above a pre-test score. Results indicate significant individual- and institutional-level effects. Initial discussion and study significance are provided.
