Abstract

The purpose of this validation study is to create a modified version of the SIOP for examining instruction in multiple language learning settings, including dual-language immersion. We call this new protocol the Immersion SIOP (iSIOP), which will produce scores that can be interpreted as the extent to which a teacher implements SIOP and biliteracy teaching practices. The iSIOP addresses a few limitations with the current version of the SIOP: (a) no recent validation studies have been conducted, nor have the items been updated since 2001; (b) none of the items address practices related to biliteracy; (c) low reliabilities of trained raters. We outline the interpretation and use arguments and validity evidence related to test content and response processes for iSIOP.
