The Resilient Women of Color Leaders: Narratives of Black and Brown Leaders in Pre-K–16 Settings

Abstract

This presentation adds to the literature about women of color in academia. Using Critical Race Theory as a framework, the lived experiences of three Full Professors are shared through personal narratives. In the first narrative, a Latina Professor shares her faculty role in preparing aspiring school administrators with a social justice orientation. Barriers, challenges and success stories about these courageous former students are shared. In the second and third narratives, an African-American and an Asian American Professor share their experiences with barriers, challenges and successes as women of color in academia. The counter-stories are those of resilience, persistence and success.
