Sociospatial Accessibiliy and Neurodiverse Transition Program Activities: Here, There, and Anywhere

Abstract

This paper uses an interactional lens to point out how socio-spatial access can further inform scholarship with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities as they take on activities during an inclusive community-based transition program. The project partnered with members from a Neurodivergent founded and trauma-informed Bay Area transition program to utilize GoPro recordings, images and observational information to better understand and articulate how interactions are getting done. The paper highlights moments from classrooms, job sites and on public transportation to discuss how individuals are making moves that assist in their social navigation. The relationship of time, space and body come together in flourishing moments of interdependent social happenings that move the potential for social understanding, misunderstanding, relationship building and Crip inclusion forward.
