Abstract

In this paper we describe and apply a new model for 21st century arts learning that brings together literature from the fields of arts education and connected learning. Through a case study that draws on interview data, we apply the framework by showing how arts practitioners interpret connected learning in the arts, namely how they draw on youth interests, and through supportive relationships, connect young people to future opportunities in the arts. The significance of this work is in how it reorients the purpose of arts education to expand beyond individual academic development to a broader set of outcomes and experiences.
