Fri, April 22, 2:30 to 4:00pm PDT (2:30 to 4:00pm PDT), Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, Floor: South Building, Level 1, Pacific Ballroom 16

Abstract

Undocumented activists in the United States have been transformative in their fight for civil rights and equal educational access. This work focuses on undocumented student activism during the Obama and Trump administrations by way of the authors’ bate-papo~testimonio. Informed by plática methodology and Latina Feminist Epistemology, we employ the Brazilian dialogic practice of bate-papo and the Latin American tradition of testimonio to shed light on injustices, highlight resilience, and conceptualize people’s actions during these movements for social change and equal education. This work conceptualizes activism, advocacy, allyship and usurpation in social movements which offers possibilities for critical reflection and praxis.
