Abstract

Research-practice partnerships hold the potential to transform educational systems to benefit all students; partners work collaboratively to tackle challenges in changing instruction at scale. Successfully changing instructional systems requires adaptive capabilities, requiring evidence use to determine adaptations. We explore how a network of partnerships used research and evidence in their efforts to change systems. We find that few partners used research for continuous improvement and developed processes measures, where others focused their research efforts on outcomes. Process measures allowed partners to adapt when common challenges created barriers midway through a project. Spotlighting the types of measures used, this study presents one mechanism, a system of measures, that partnerships could use for learning about implementation of interventions
