Abstract

This research paper describes a research study that addressed the underrepresentation of Latina/o/x bilingual students in Gifted and Talented Programs in schools in the south Texas. Although there is an array of factors that contribute to this underrepresentation, one dominant factor is the identification process. This project aimed to provide educators, parents, and other stakeholders with necessary information concerning the gifted characteristics unique to Latina/o/x bilingual students. The Bilingual GT Scale can be an initial step to informing educational stakeholders of the importance of properly identifying gifted Latina/o/x bilingual students and appropriately servicing them in the GT programs.
