Abstract

A significant STEM education event offered by LIGO Science Education Center is Science Saturdays, a monthly public event. This research explores LIGO Science Saturdays, Concept Mapping, and Retrieval Practice for improving science education. To this end, studies corroborate Retrieval Practice as an effective educational intervention for improving academic achievement and long-term learning in diverse content areas. Analogously, Concept Mapping remains empirically corroborated as a potent educational intervention for enhancing academic performance by fostering the development of higher-order, critical thinking skills. Nevertheless, the academic impact of teachers’ active participation in LIGO Science Saturdays on science education, Concept Mapping, and Retrieval Practice requires further investigation. This study explored LIGO Science Saturdays, Concept Mapping, and Retrieval Practice for advancing science teaching and learning.
