This study yields interesting insights into the unique learning environments experienced by students during COVID times in blended learning and place-based education settings and has lead to the development and validation of a variety of tools for the evaluation of learning environments in these programs. In a series of reported case studies, students often noted a closer fit between their actual and preferred environments in these ‘place-based’ settings and rated these settings more positively on all scales measured. Therefore, these instruments offer new possibilities for evaluation studies on blended learning environments in place-based and constructivist oriented environmental education settings, and offers exciting new models for participatory action research by teachers and informal environmental educators.
