"In Progress Submission": Using the Afrocentric Gaze Within Hip-Hop for Multicultural Education

Abstract

A transformative transnational multicultural curriculum is one that encourages teachers and students to analyze oppressive systems of racism and sexism that exist in the globalized economy, especially when analyzing from an Afrocentric gaze. The need to include narratives from the African American perspective in multicultural education can bring awareness to non-Black scholars globally with the hopes of promoting social change and co-conspirators in the fight for equity. This study aims to discuss how an Afrocentric perspective incorporated with Hip Hop pedagogy can create transformative multicultural education globally. This qualitative analysis study will be using secondary data for content analysis of Hip Hop and multicultural teacher preparation courses that offer an Afrocentric perspective in multicultural education.
