Mon, April 25, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, SIG-Peace Education Virtual Paper Session Room

Abstract

This presentation shares the results of a study examining responses on the Perceived Hope Scale (PHS) among a total of 6571 teachers, university students, and faculty in 13 Muslim societies. Hope is defined here not only as being optimistic, but it functions as a catalyst for change in individuals and their communities. The analysis suggested high level of agreements among males and females and source groups. Further multiple regression analysis suggested high prediction powers of variables such as emotional regulation and forgiveness on hope when set as an outcome. This study adds knowledge on the way the PHS and ways it is perceived in the thirteen countries as well as hope as a variable to promote action, transformation, and peace.
