Good but Not Good Enough: A University's Response to the Rising Anti-Asian Violence During COVID-19

Abstract

Universities can serve as pillars of support and lead communities to fight for social justice and equity. They can also serve to perpetuate hegemony and existing forms of oppression. The study is part of a larger project that sought to understand the racialized experiences of Asian American faculty, staff, and students at a large, Tier 1, Asian American-serving public university in the South during the COVID-19 pandemic and resurgence of Anti-Asian hate and violence across the country. This study specifically focuses on participants’ racialized experiences at the university and their perceptions of the university’s response to the rising Anti-Asian hate across the country as well as the March 2021 Atlanta Massacre.
