In the last decades Chile has implemented more inclusive education policies such as additional student funding alternatives and access and college preparation programs. The PACE Program is the most recent national college preparation program. The program provides direct access to higher education institutions for students from low socioeconomic schools. Students must obtain good High School Ranking scores and have attended the program during the last two years of high school.
This study aims to investigate the effects of the PACE program on student second-year GPA by employing a regression discontinuity design for students admitted in years 2016-2019 at one selective institution. Results suggest that students enrolling via PACE show lower grades than students admitted through the regular path.
