The purpose of this study is to investigate the self-reported practices of P-6 elementary general music teachers regarding folk songs they teach or alter in their music curricula. A secondary purpose is to examine P-6 elementary general music teachers’ familiarity with and incorporation of anti-racist pedagogy into their teaching practices. The instrument is an online questionnaire, and members of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) were selected and contacted only if they identified that they taught elementary and/or general music. Attempts were made to reach as many participants as possible (N = 10,000), and NAfME distributed the survey to all potential participants through their automated email system. Data collection is currently in progress.
