The Impact of the NTN Design on Academic Outcomes

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of enrollment in New Tech Network (NTN) programs on the performances of ninth grade students on end of course tests at four schools in the southeastern United States. NTN focuses on systemic change and implementation of deeper learning practices through project-based learning techniques. Results suggest that, when implemented with fidelity, there is a significant effect of NTN participation as students in NTN schools scored higher on both Math and ELA tests compared to students in traditional control schools. This effect remained after controlling for poverty, race, and preexisting achievement level.
