Abstract

Growing uses of virtual reality in the classroom calls for a measure of student perceptions of their learning environment, to determine the impact on student learning. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of using immersive virtual reality, in terms of learning environments and student attitudes towards science. Results from the Outcomes-Related Learning Environment Survey show and student interviews show that virtual reality lessons improved how the students perceived their learning environment. The lessons had a medium sized positive effect on student attitudes. Student interview responses confirm the findings for both questions. Interrupted by COVID in terms of the impact on student outcomes, this study shows promise for integrating virtual reality in science classrooms.
