Examining Anti-Black Racism in School Social Work Education

Abstract

School social work education aims to adhere to the standards established by the field, which include cultural competency and specifically anti-Black racism. This article presents the results of a content analysis of school social work practice course syllabi at Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited graduate programs in an effort to understand how programs conceptualize and incorporate cultural competency and anti-Black racism within school social work practice courses. While there are some programs that explicitly address race and racism, this study suggests that additional course development opportunities exist.
