Schools' Creative Culture and Teachers' Inquiry-Based Teaching: A Multinational Study of Asian and Western Countries

Abstract

It is generally acknowledged that Western education provides a more conducive environment for creative teaching than Asian education, thus a comparison of the relationship of creative culture to teaching practice between Asian and Western countries is worth investigating. The current study used data from 13 Asian and Western countries and regions to examine the relationship between creative culture in schools and inquiry-based teaching, with teachers’ self-efficacy in inquiry-based teaching as a mediator, extending findings of a previous study that investigated the proposed relationships from a single country. The result found evidence for mediating relationships among the three variables in all 13 Asian and Western countries/region. Evidence of stronger relationships in Asia than in Western countries was also found and discussed.
