Growing Through It: Latinas Claiming Educational Leadership in a Pre-K–12 School District

Abstract

There is an urgency to increase the number of Latina educational leaders throughout educational settings given a more diverse student population than the nation has ever seen. District educational leaders are responsible for meeting the growing needs of this student population. The literature regarding district central office Latina educational leaders is minuscule to non-existent. The purpose of the study was to understand how Latinas experience earning a central office leadership position within a PK-12 public school district situated in a Southwest borderland town. Utilizing narrative inquiry the researcher engaged in storytelling with fellow Latina educational leaders to unearth the unique strengths used to earn leadership at the central office.
