Teaching About Responsibilities for Climate Change Migrants

Abstract

This paper investigates how one social studies teacher utilized Global Citizenship Education to engage students with an instructional unit about climate change migrants. Specifically, it interrogates the idea of how climate change migrants belong in a global environment and the common responsibilities people have for them. Findings reveal that the teacher’s learning objectives focused on open-ended discussion topics, which raise implications for how to address a politically-charged subject in a constructive way.
