Determinants of Schools' Commitment to Innovation: Empirical Evidence From Italy

Abstract

The primary aim of this research is to quantify innovation and to measure the impact of different determinants at the school level. We propose a conceptual framework on how the principals’ leadership, supervision, general administrative systems, organizational capabilities as well as interpersonal skills nurture innovation within schools. We use original data from 516 schools and data from National Operational Programs (NOP) in Italy to test our model. The results revealed that all determinants impact innovation significantly measured through the number of hours that schools invested in NOP.
