This study reports on a video-based literacy coaching PD intervention that is grounded in site-based, individualized and sustained PD in literacy pedagogy, and targets the use of three research-based instructional elements within the dimension of scaffolding: modeling, strategy instruction, and feedback. To gain a better understanding of to what extent and why instructional coaching works in some contexts and for some teachers while not for others, the current study investigates (1) to what extent in-service teachers participating in a video-based literacy instructional coaching intervention that focuses on scaffolding elements, successfully integrate these elements in their own classroom instruction, and (2) what kinds of challenges teachers perceive in the scaffolding integration process.
